The site is divided into several sections. The profile section contains many persons that have paved the way for life as we live today. Some made very important contributions to Maryland and to the United States. I am always looking for additional profiles. If you, your parents or your grand or great-grandparents were German and lived in Maryland, send me a profile. I will be happy to post it. Every story is important. Whether your ancestors were inventors, manufacturers, brewers or a stay at home Mom, they all contributed. Their every step paved the way.
Upcoming Events: Walking Tour: Green Mount Cemetery - Wayne Schaumburg will lead four guided tours of Green Mount Cemetery on Saturday, May 4, 11, 18, 25. Opened in 1839, Green Mount is the final resting place of Baetjer, Lucas, Keyser, Marburg, Greiner, Hanzsche, Rinehart, and many other famous German- Marylanders. The two-hour walking tours begin at 9:30 a.m. from the main gate located at Greenmount Avenue and East Oliver Street. $15, reservations required. Email Wayne at wayne.schaumburg@gmail.com.   2013 Legislation-THE BILL PASSSED!
GERMAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH-OCTOBER!!!!!
Update: Well the third year was the charm. The last bill passed out of the House tonight (the last night of the session) was House Bill 34. It went through the House as German American Heritage Day, but passed. Then it went to the Senate and Senator Klausmeier offered the amendment to make it the German American Heritage Month...that passed and had to be sent back to the House because of the amendment. The House concurred with the Senate amendment and the German American Heritage Month bill passed.
I thank all of you for your testimony, prayers, letters, emails, calls and good thoughts. I thank Senator Katherine Klausmeier and Delegates Sue Aumann and Bill Frank for their fight on the House side and I thank committee Chairman Hammon for passing this bill out of his committee this year. This means that the German Maryland community must work together and show others our proud heritage. The month of October is an easy month to do this with the unification, the national holiday, Octoberfest, etc. We must work together to let others know of our heritage and our many contributions to life in Maryland!
