German Lutheran Cemetery-Cumberland

The old German Lutheran Cemetery, also known as the German Beneficiary Cemetery is located on Baltimore Street in Cumberland, Maryland. It sits next to the Eastview Cemetery. It is an old cemetery with burials going back to the early 1800s. The earliest transcription I have is for Anna Hoffmann in 1835. Many of the stones were worn and unreadable, some were partially legible. We photographed what we could and transcribed the best we could.

We do know from reading several of the obituaries for the souls buried there, that it was at one time associated with a church. For example, the obituary for Margaret Weisenmiller, noted that her funeral was from the German Lutheran Church and the interment would be in the German Beneficiary Cemetery…then on Baltimore Pike.
