Another wonderful German Christmas decoration, this star is made of 4 stips of paper and is multi-dimensional, usually 3 dimensional. It is also called the Advent Star and the Moravian Star.
It is made with paper..just paper. It is not held together with glue, staples or any adhesive. It is held together by its basket-like folds.
It was named after Friedrich Fröbel (1782-1852) who founded the Kindergarten concept. It is said that he encouraged his class of Moravian boys to come up with a 26 point star. He frequently used paper folding in his teaching. The stars appear to be a creation dating back to the 19th century. The name Fröbelstern has been commonly used since the mid 1900s.. It is used as a Christmas decoration on trees, wreaths and garland. The practice is limited, not too many know how to make them.
It is Germany’s response to Origami.
