German Reformed Church of Peace
German Reformed Church of Peace
On March 13, 1893 the church was organized. The Rev. Henry Wieger was the first pastor. A lot was purchased in 1893 at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Cumberland Street on which the church was dedicated in 1894. The ground and building cost approximately $15,000. Again we have additional information for this address. The MGS Journal lists a church at 601-605 Cumberland Avenue. The church names given Friedens/Concordia/Bethany Reformed Church. The tenure listed was 1893-1931, which fits and the Denomination was Reformed.
A Sunpaper article describes the 10th Anniversary celebration of Friedens located at Cumberland and Pennsylvania Avenues in March 1903. The celebrant that day was Reverend H. Wiemer.
Christ Reformed merged with Bethany as Messiah Reformed. It merged in 1958 to Associate Congregational (a 1900 merger of First Congregational (1865) and Associate Reformed Presbyterian (1787) as Messiah United Church of Christ (UCC).
